I loved strolling down the length of the town centre in Minya to admire its beautiful buildings, which date from the beginning of the 19th century, its avenues lined with imposing trees and, above all, its corniche: one of the nicest places in Minya and a perfect viewpoint to contemplate the Nile and its surrounding hills.
Minya is a lively city, especially around Midan Tahrir at lunchtime, where numerous restaurants offer succulent Egyptian dishes, including the delicious and famous koshari: the national dish of Egypt, consisting of lentils, macaroni, rice, fried onions, cloves of garlic, all enhanced with black pepper, Cayenne pepper, a hint of cumin and accompanied by a smooth tomato sauce.
Minya's main attraction is a ride in a "hantour": the local horse-drawn carriage. A really lovely means of transport to admire the city! For Nile lovers, a trip in a "lunche" (motor boat) or in a "felouque" (sailing boat) is also nice to do; amateur sailors can even hire boats at the city's pier.
