Day 1: Hello Hanoi!

Chao Ban! Welcome to Hanoi, we will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel for check-in.

Today you'll have free time to rest or explore, discovering the ins and outs of Vietnam for yourself (depending on what time you arrive).

Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2: Cycling in Hanoi Village

We will pick you up at 8:30 AM for a short transfer to the outskirts of Hanoi.

You'll have the morning to learn about Hanoi villages’ traditions and customs.

We'll begin walking and cycling along the villages, visiting local markets, old houses, and worshipping temples, before a short food demonstration and lunch at one of the local family's houses.

In the afternoon, we set off from Dong Ngac, cycling on mostly rural lanes through surrounding villages to Lien Mac, a beautiful area of immaculately tended vegetables and flowers.

After taking another route from Lien Mac back to Dong Ngac, you’ll have a short break for a drink at your host family’s home, bid your farewell, and catch the van back to your hotel in Hanoi at around 17:00. 

You're free to have dinner until 20:30, before our guide picks you up for night train to Lao Cai.

Boarding is at around 21:40, in a shared AC soft sleeper cabin.

Day 3: Full Day of Trekking to Ta Phin

The train arrives at about 6:30.

Our guide will be waiting at the station to pick you up (~ 1.5 hours to Sapa).

When you arrive in Sapa you'll have a time for a short rest, a hot shower and some breakfast before your trek ~ 4 - 5 hours ~ 14km! A short transfer and we’re off.

You'll have plenty of chances to meet and talk with locals working in the fields.

Picnic lunch en-route then continue trekking to Ta Phin Village – home of the Red Dao people. Your Dao host family will welcome you to their home where we will share in an ethnic style dinner and stay the night.

Day 4: Ta Phin - Back to Sapa

At dusk, you will hear the sounds of morning village life.

Join your host family in some of their morning activities like feeding the animals, gardening or preparing breakfast.

After breakfast, take a short wander around the village or spend more time enjoying the view and company at the homestay.

You will then be transferred by our car or a van back to Sapa (30 mins).

When we arrive back in Sapa, check into the hotel, shower, and have a break for lunch at your own leisure.

At 14:30 we will take an easy 5km walk to Cat Cat Village, home of Black H’mong hill tribe, and to take part in a traditional ethnic music performance put on by the ethnic minority people.

Dinner and evening for free time.

Day 5: Free Day, and Train to Hanoi

Wake up in Sapa town, breakfast at the hotel then enjoy the morning activities in the town markets.

Today your guide is available to you for the whole day, although you do have the option to enjoy the day on your own.

Suggestions for today: visit the orchid gardens at Dragon Mountain or complete another trek to a hill tribe village.

At 17:30 transfer to the Lao Cai train station. Departure is at 20:15 on an AC soft sleeper class cabin to Hanoi.

Day 6: Welcome to Ha Long

Safely back in Hanoi at 5:00, please find your way back to a prearranged hotel near the train station, where you'll have time to shower, rest and have breakfast.

Departure for Halong Bay is around 8:00 in a shared van (~ 4 hours) from your hotel.

Arrive at the port around 12:00 noon,come aboard, then you'll be taken to your cabin before the trip briefing.

Fresh, local seafood lunch while you cruise to Bai Tu Long Bay.

Stop for a swim and visit the mysterious cave, then relax at our secluded island-beach or explore by kayak. Enjoy the sunset, dinner and overnight onboard!

Day 7: Exlplore Bai Tu Long Bay

Early risers can enjoy the sunrise and the quiet beauty of Halong’s karst landscape.

Breakfast around 7:30 before our short rowboat trip, courtesy of the locals of the bay.

We’ll begin to head back to the Halong port and disembark about 11:45 - you'll have time beforehand for one last lunch and more cruising.

Hit the road, stopping for a water puppet show at a traditional Vietnamese village before arriving at Hanoi around 17:30 at the hotel.

Then pick up around 18:30 for the night train to Hue.

Day 8: Hue by Boat and Bike to Rural Villages

Arrival in Hue at around 09:00.

Station pick up then transfer to a prearranged hotel.

Shower, short rest and breakfast.

In the morning, visit the Imperial City to learn all about the royal kingdom and it's past. 

We will then embark upon a boat ride along the beautiful Perfume River, with a stop at Thien Mu pagoda.

Continue the boat journey downstream, taking in the views of the riverbank, then lunch on board.

The afternoon starts with biking (14km in total) to the flower village of Tien Non, then cycle to the Thanh Tien paper flower-making village -  you'll have the chance to make a flower yourself! 

After that, visit the village where they make traditional folk paintings, ride further through Hue's beautiful and peaceful countryside before hitting the road back to your hotel for about 17:30.

Day 9: Hue's History and Marketplace 

After breakfast at your hotel around 8:30 we will go on a relaxing 1 hour Vietnam bike ride to Dong Ba Market then explore the Royal Tombs.  

Afterwards, it will be time to begin our transfer to Hoi An (about 4 hrs).

There is fabulous sightseeing en route and we may stop briefly at Lang Co beach, Hai Van pass, Cham Museum, and the Marble mountains depending on time.

Hoi An in the evening, then stay overnight.

Day 10: ​Countryside and Ancient Town of Hoi An

We'll meet at your hotel for a very short transfer to the boat docks, then travel to a fishing village where you will see and experience the life of a fisherman - activities from preparing the fishing tools to fishing itself.

A short basket boat trip along the village of Water Coconuts will take us to lunch. 

We will then cycle along the country lanes through the coconut, corn and rice paddies to the main town of Hoi An.

Our afternoon will resume with sightseeing at the famous cultural sites around Hoi An, ending your trip at around 17:00 at your hotel where you can rest.

Day 11: City Tour of Saigon

Breakfast at the hotel then transfer to the airport in Danang for an early morning flight to Saigon.

Land, transfer and check in to your hotel before our city tour of bustling Saigon.

Visit the BinhTay Market in Cho Lon; stopover at Thien Hau, a 150-year-old Chinese temple; then visit a Lacquer-wares workshop as well as the Jade Emperor Pagoda.

In the afternoon visit the War Remnants Museum, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the historic Central Post Office.

We will drop you off at your hotel around 17:30.

Day 12: TayNinh and the Cu Chi Tunnels

Depart Saigon at 8:00 from your hotel for a morning excursion to TayNinh and the Great Cao Dai Temple (a place of worship for Buddhism, Confucius, Taoism, Hinduism and Christianity).

Take part in the noon mass at the temple (1 hour) then lunch in TayNinh.

In the afternoon we'll visit the Cu Chi Outdoor Museum to learn about the infamous tunnel systems of the Viet Cong.

Take this opportunity to learn about the guerilla underground fighting strategies during the war.

Crawl through 50 to 100m of the 200km tunnel system if you dare!

On the way back to Saigon visit a local rice paper workshop and take in views of the Vietnam countryside.

We’ll drop you off at your hotel around 17:30.

Day 13: On to Mekong Delta

Departure at 8:00 from your hotel, then drive about 70km out of Saigon to see Mekong Delta life around My Tho.

Upon arrival in Ben Tre, drift down the busy branches of the Mekong, into its peaceful canals.

Visit a brick kiln and a coconut shell husking workshop, followed by a coconut-candy workshop.

Later, on the cruise, get ready to visit a local market and farmer workshop.

Afterwards, explore this quiet island by bicycle or by Lambrettatriporteur, an old 1960 tricycle from south Vietnam which will wind around the coconut palms, bitter melon or cucumber farms to a farmhouse at which we'll stop for lunch.

In the afternoon, walk a bit more towards the coconut farms and fruit orchards of the village, then enjoy the local hand-rowing sampan cruise under the canopy of water coconut palms along the canal.

Our boat will pick us up again and return to the boat landing in BenTre town.

Head back to Saigon - tour ends around 17:00.

Day 14: Goodbye Vietnam!

Breakfast at hotel, then depending on your flight you may have some more time for shopping.

We'll transfer you to the airport for your flight home.
