Mexico

Mexico today

Mexico is a destination that has it all, whether you're a nature lover, a hiking fan, a foodie, photographer or simply looking to laze on a white beach next to turquoise waters. It's also a history fan's paradise, a place where lost civilizations have left many a trace. In brief, Mexico's a great destination for everyone.

An incredible country unjustly portrayed as violent

Media coverage of this amazing country is often negative, focusing on problems with drug trafficking and cartels. As a result travellers can become wary. All the same, these internal problems and conflicts are not directly tourist related. Like other countries where social disparity is widespread, Mexico is not without risk, but any sensible traveller need not worry about holidaying here.

When I was travelling solo across the country, a lot of people tried to put me on my guard - be extra careful, don't hail taxis in the street, do this, don't do that...All I can say is that during the 4 months I was there, I met some wonderful people and never had a problem during my trip. Remain open-minded and calm if you want to make the most of your journey. If not, you'll end up constantly looking over your shoulder, become paranoid and be overly defensive.

From mass to integrated tourism...

The Agua Azul Waterfalls

The development of tourism in Mexico has gone through several metamorphoses, according to visitor needs. Whilst huge resorts, such as Acapulco, quickly sprang up to accommodate mass-tourism, Mexico today is turning towards a more sustainable tourist trade. Respectful of both nature and its indigenous populations, Mexico has begun to promote its natural and cultural heritage through a tourist trade that generates revenue whilst also protecting local environments.

Today Mexico reaps the benefits of its cultural diversity, be it from pre-Columbian, American or Spanish influences. This vibrant, colourful country is multi-cultural, as seen in its cuisine and range of crafts.

Its variety of landscapes and range of things to do make Mexico a destination that is great not only for a family holiday, but also for groups of friends or those who love outdoor activities.
