Customs formalities

A free tourist visa for stays up to 30 days

It is not necessary to go to the embassy to obtain a visa before your trip to Madagascar. You can obtain a free tourist visa for a stay up to 30 days at the airport or port of entry on your arrival in Madagascar.

For those who are on a tight schedule or have a connection and want to avoid the queue at the airport, it is possible to obtain an entry visa in all Malagasy embassies or consulates on presentation of a passport that is valid for a minimum period of 6 months, a return plane ticket and identity photos.

For stays exceeding 30 days

At Antananarivo or Nosy Be international airports, the port of entry, or any Malagasy embassy or consulate:

- for a stay up to 60 days, you must pay an entrance fee of €70

- for a stay up to 90 days, the entry fee is €100.

Customs formalities

- It is forbidden to import or export meat products. Plant health checks may be required if you want to bring fruit or vegetables home from a trip to Madagascar.

- Under the conventions on international trade, it is forbidden to carry protected or endangered species, ancient works of art, etc. in your baggage...

- Check with UK Customs for current allowances on the import of vanilla.

- Wooden objects purchased on Malagasy territory must be declared to customs on leaving the territory. Invoices issued by approved artisans must be kept and submitted on request. The authorities will then issue a certificate of transport.
