A little more than 50 km from Amman, you have to go north to get to Jerash. It's one of the most attractive tourist sites in Jordan, after the incomparable Petra and Wadi Rum.

My suggestion:
In July and August, Queen Rania of Jordan is the sponsor of a superb arts and culture festival.
Summary:
Jerash is undoubtedly the most interesting tourist site north of Amman. Archaeology lovers will be fascinated by the town and will find a trip to Jerash one of the best parts of their trip to Jordan.
