While staying in Corsica, be sure to visit and explore the forêt d'Aïtone: the green, forested lungs of the island. You can go hiking and swimming in the forest, and it offers the possibility of encounters with some of Corsica's resident animals.

My suggestion:
Take care when driving: around every bend there may be an animal walking tranquilly in the middle of the road, either on its own or accompanied by its family!
Summary:

The forêt d'Aitone has a particularly pleasant atmosphere about it. In fact I was especially impressed by the green and verdant landscape and scenery here. This is nature at its very finest, with pine and fir trees standing side by side with oaks in perfect harmony! There are no buildings, no concrete and none of the usual signs of mass tourism to be seen anywhere. There are just the plants, the trees and the wildlife. Something else that makes the forest a pleasant and enjoyable place to be is the coolness and freshness it has to offer compared with the temperatures found at the coast in Corsica.

This makes it a good environment in which to go hiking, and there are various well-marked paths and trails here to enable you to do that. It is also possible to bathe in the river and its waterfall.

The one small negative about this place is that it is very popular with tourists. Encountering the local animals, however, is a more enjoyable experience. I actually managed to make friends with a couple of cows and a piglet. (The goats are somewhat less sociable.) In short, there is plenty of life in these here woods!
