Lastovo, a secret and unspoiled Croatian island

Lastovo, a secret and unspoiled Croatian island

Croatia has become a popular holiday destination, especially with clubbers worldwide, since the beginning of the 21st century. But far from wild, Mediterranean evenings, south of Dalamatia, following the land along the length of the Adriatic Sea, hides the island of Lastovo. Without taking up too much of your time, we present it to you, responsible travellers, who will be sympathetic to it...

The forests of Buzet, Croatia's truffle capital

The forests of Buzet, Croatia's truffle capital

If you're a food lover, be sure to do a car tour of the Buzet region of northern Istria, which lies not far from the Slovenian border. The area's rolling, verdant landscapes are simply magnificent, and it is considered one of Croatia's main gastronomic regions.

On the Brijuni Islands, in the company of Tito!

A magnificent series of vegetation-covered islands, the archipelago lying off the west coast of Istria and formed by two large islands, Veliki Brijun and Mail Brijun, and twelve islets was chosen by Marshall Tito as the location of his summer residence and as a place where he could receive and host his visitors, especially the heads of the non-aligned states.

Vukovar: history and remembrance

Vukovar: history and remembrance

Today an attractive Slavonian city lying close to the Croatia-Serbia border on the river Danube, Vukovar is unfortunately associated with the war that resulted in Croatia separating from Yugoslavia. The city is slowly recovering from the effects of the 1991 siege, which left its mark on both its people and its walls and buildings. Visiting it today is a particularly moving experience.

VaraždinskeToplice and Stari Grad Castle

VaraždinskeToplice and Stari Grad Castle

Lying in the very north of Croatia and not far from the Hungarian border, the relatively quiet and peaceful towns of Varaždin and its smaller neighbour Varaždin Toplice are home to a rich wealth of ancient ruins and architecturally interesting buildings, such as Roman spas, a baroque castle and palace, and various churches … and not forgetting the several museums, which contain plenty to interest the inquisitive visitor.

Tvrđa, the citadel of Osijek

Tvrđa, the citadel of Osijek

A fort of italianesque shape built during the Habsburg era, Tvrđa contains the ancient centre of the city of Osijek. Surprisingly well preserved, the site constitutes a Baroque architectural ensemble of particularly significant importance. It was constructed to defend the region from the threat of Ottoman attack at the beginning of the 18th century.

The coves of Lošinj, a serrated lacework of turquoise and green

The coves of Lošinj, a serrated lacework of turquoise and green

Though the island of Lošinj is quite densely populated and receives a lot of tourists – who come to enjoy its natural landscape and its villages – it does also have some magnificent and little-visited bays and coves in its south, which I strongly recommend exploring!

Plitvice and the smaller Krka are parks you must visit in Croatia. You really should put them on your holiday to-do list. Hikers will love the mountain parks as well as the stunning, protected islands.
