Your guide will pick you up for your small group eco-adventure into the Outback. Head north to Mount Remarkable National Park. Here you will enjoy lunch surrounded by 600 million year old mountain peaks and an abundance of native Australian wildlife. We head out to Warrens Gorge Conservation Park to search for the rare and elusive Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby. Explore the deserted Willochra Plain on the way to the centre of the Flinders Ranges, stopping at ancient Aboriginal art sites. Enjoy a hearty meal and a good nights sleep in the natural setting of Rawnsley Park Station.
Wake up to the call of the native birdlife. Enjoy your breakfast and the morning view of South Australia's iconic Wilpena Pound (also known to the local Aboriginal people as Ikara). Today we explore the unique area that surrounds the Pound. Wildlife including Kangaroos, Emus and the bold Wedge Tailed Eagles are prolific in this rugged area. Travel back to Rawnsley Park via the spectacular Moralana Scenic track following the southwestern wall of Wilpena Pound.
Our journey now takes us south through the magnificent Southern Flinders Ranges with its spectacular Red Gum lined creeks to Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. We travel through the old townships of Mid-North South Australia on our way back to Adelaide and stay at the Mayfair Hotel.
This is a personally escorted journey that takes you into and behind the scenes of some of Australia’s finest vineyards. Travel over Jacobs Creeks for your first tasting of the fine wines at the Peter Lehmann winery. We’ll visit Torbreck wine cellars, a small winery with rustic charm, making wines in traditional Barossa methods. Lunch will be alfresco under the vines or at Vintners restaurant just out of Angaston. There will be selected winery visits after lunch before returning to Adelaide late afternoon.
You'll fly from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island. On arrival you will be met by your knowledgeable local guide for your Island Life day tour - Explore a red gum forest in the Cygnet River valley - seek out koalas sleeping in the forks of trees. Take a walk through the habitat of kangaroos, tammar wallabies and endangered glossy black cockatoos. After lunch at Seal Bay Conservation Park walk with your guide amongst Australian sea lions on a beautiful sandy beach. Watch pups nursing or playing in the surf, see old bulls scarred by territorial fights and learn of their unique breeding biology. At the conclusion of the tour we take you back to your accommodation, Kangaroo Island Lodge.
After breakfast depart for Flinders Chase National Park, a vast wilderness covering the western end of the island, is home to kangaroos, wallabies, possums, goannas, echidnas, koalas, platypus and many birds including rare Cape Barren geese. At Cape du Couedic visit a fur seal colony, which now numbers over 20,000 after being decimated by hunting in the early 1800's. These animals can be observed resting on the rocks or frolicking in the surf under Admiral's Arch, a spectacular grotto. Along the coast explore Remarkable Rocks, huge natural sculptures on the cliff top. Good wines and local produce features highly in our picnic lunch, which we enjoy in the bush before exploring more of the island. At the conclusion of the tour we take you back to your accommodation.
This morning you'll be transfered to the Kangaroo Island airport for your flight to Adelaide and then transferred to the rail station.
