Day 2: The Historic City of Elbasan
Elbasan, having retained its historical centre and cobbled streets, was once a very prosperous city know for its industry of handicrafts. Visit its ancient fortress, beautiful houses and one of the country’s oldest mosques.
The UNESCO city of Berat awaits in the afternoon. Famed for its architecture, it is best known for being “the city of 1,000 windows” and will charm you with its white houses and steep streets. Discover the city’s castle, many mosques and its museums.
Day 3: The National Park of Divjaka
Famous for the Lagoon of Karavasta and its bird species (like the rare, curly pelican!), Divjaka National Park is easily explored via its hiking trails.
In the evening, head to the city of Durres.
Day 4: Travel back in Time in Durres
Durres was an important merchant city in ancient times, as highlighted by its amphitheatre and city walls. Nowadays it is Albania’s main port. Walk along the promenade and visit the archaeological museum.Later, leave Kruja, the hometown of Albania’s national hero – Skanderberg. Learn about him and local culture at the Skanderberg Museum. Finally, stroll between the stalls of the old market on a charming square with cobbled streets
